Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for enterprise, data center, cloud, wired and wireless networking, will demonstrate multiple industry standard server applications, Hypervisors and OSes running on Cavium ThunderX reference systems at Linaro Connect Asia 2015 during the week of February 9, 2015 at the Regal Airport Hotel in Hong Kong.

Cavium demonstrations will include:

  • Full support for a range of industry standard Linux Operating systems
-Red Hat Linux with over 7000 available applications (binary RPMs)
-Canonical Ubuntu server distribution with over 41000 available packages
-openSUSE with over 6000 available packages
  • These packages cover a significant percentage of widely used open source applications covering areas of system management (e.g. Chef, Puppet), distributed data bases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB), Cloud storage applications (e.g. Ceph), Data Analytics (e.g. Hadoop), OpenStack and others.
  • Industry standard virtualization solutions including advanced Hypervisor functionality such as direct device assignment for both KVM and Xen.
  • Industry standard Java solutions such as OpenJDK.

These solutions will demonstrate low latency and high throughput solutions with excellent multi-core scaling. The demonstrations will also showcase Cavium virtSOC™ technology with full system virtualization, and SR-IOV capable IO. In addition, Linaro CEO George Grey will show OpenJDK scaling linearly across the ARMv8 cores of ThunderX as part of his keynote on Monday, February 9.

“Many of the important workloads for today’s leading Data Center and Cloud Environments are based on Java. The impressive level of Java performance on the 48 core ThunderX system clearly shows that ThunderX will be a good choice to provide the efficiency, scalability and core performance required by today’s most demanding Java applications,” said George Grey, CEO of Linaro. “Linaro Connect is a key industry venue for the Linux Community that is driving ARMv8 enablement and optimization. We welcome Cavium’s active participation as a valuable Linaro member and we appreciate their leadership in demonstrating ThunderX at Linaro Connect in Hong Kong.”

“Cavium’s public demonstration of ThunderX at Linaro Connect is a key milestone for the entire ARMv8 industry. Continued growth of commercial and open source software partners running on ThunderX, outstanding performance and proven application scalability all combine to highlight the readiness of ThunderX for deployment,” said Larry Wikelius, Director Thunder Ecosystems and Partner Enablement at Cavium. “The collaboration with the leading software developers at Linaro continues to be an important element of Cavium’s overall ecosystem strategy. In addition to Linaro, many of Cavium’s ecosystem partners are accelerating their software development by testing and optimizing on Cavium’s reference server systems.”

The ThunderX product family is Cavium’s 64-bit ARMv8 server processor for next generation Data Center and cloud applications. With high performance custom cores, single and dual socket configurations, high memory bandwidth, large memory capacity, integrated hardware accelerators, integrated feature rich high bandwidth network and storage IO, fully virtualized core and IO, and scalable high bandwidth, low latency Ethernet fabric ThunderX enables best in class performance per dollar and performance per watt.
