Cloud Expo 2012: Open Source Cloud Broker and Cloud PaaS Collaborative Projects Showcase

OW2, the global open source community for open source middleware and generic applications today announces its presence at the Cloud Expo Europe in London, January 25-26. OW2 and the Open Source Cloudware Initiative (OSCi) will introduce two major cloud computing projects: CompatibleOne, a cloud interoperability platform based on a cloud broker, and CloudForce, a project dedicated to developing a cloud application life-cycle management environment.

Attendees at Cloud Expo are welcome to visit the OW2 booth and attend presentations illustrating the organization’s involvement in leading open source cloud computing collaborative projects.

  • CompatibleOne – When Interoperability Matters, by Ian James Marshall, CTO, Prologue, on Wednesday 25 January, 4:35pm. CompatibleOne develops interoperable middleware for the description and federation of heterogeneous clouds comprising resources provisioned by different vendors. The aim of CompatibleOne is to break vendor-lock-in for developers and users by providing interoperability with most platforms. The project contributes to the cloud stack of the OW2 Open Source Cloudware initiative (OSCi). The talk includes a demonstration of the first cloud brokerage proof of concept by CompatibleOne and show the feasibility of cloud brokerage between OpenNebula and OpenStack platforms, validating the VM interoperability mechanisms.
  • Think to PaaS for Multi-IaaS Cloud Computing: the CloudForce collaborative R&D project, by Alban Richard, CEO, UShareSoft and Cédric Thomas, OW2 CEO, Wednesday 25 January 1:45pm. CloudForce is a 3 year collaborative R&D project starting in January 2012, which aims at building an open software engineering platform, for the collaborative development of distributed applications to be deployed on multiple Cloud infrastructures. The project aims at supporting virtualized multi-tier applications such as JavaEE – OSGi. CloudForce will deliver a set of software components to manage the lifecycle of complex virtual appliances and will be made available as open source components through the OW2 Open Source Cloudware initiative.

Several OW2 members will be represented during the tradeshow, including Talend and UShareSoft. “The extensive presence of OW2 and the Open Source Cloudware Initiative (OSCi) at Cloud Expo reflects the growing impact of the community in the open source cloud computing field.” says OW2 CEO Cedric Thomas. The OW2 Community will be at booth # 639.
