Cloud Computing has become an integral component of most businesses today. However, this methodology poses certain risks as well.
1. The SaaS (Software as a service) provider needs to be secured. No third parties or employees should have access to the SaaS provider.
2. Very often, the DNS (Domain Name System) service happens to have weak security systems that are exploited. Make sure that the DNS comes with a Service Level Agreement(SLA) and is 100% uptime.
3. Data that is processed outside the enterprise bring with it some inherent risks. When choosing your cloud provider, ask information about who is managing the data and who has control over access to the data.
4. If your sensitive information is being held by a cloud service provider, find out more about the provider and their audits. Providers with a good reputation undergo security licensing and external audits and therefore it is imperative that you take notice of an glitch in those components which indicate security faults.
5. The cloud is usually in a shared environment. Each piece of data needs to be encrypted to ensure data segregation. The encryption should be tested by specialists because encryption issues may result in loss of data.
