If you have a 2003 Virtual machine and you want to use your XP machine to connect to it via network... Have you checked the network setting in you virtual machine settings? You may have to bridge the network to the proper NIC. If you don't know how to do this, a google search with bridge network adapter and virtual PC should give you good results.
