Default Debian 5 Distro Appliance and VMTools Install (Fusion)

I downloaded and set up the Debian 5 (Lenny) appliance from the VMware web site and upgraded, changed settings, and so on and got the thing working in Fusion just fine less the VMTools. In installing VMware Tools, I went through a lot of hoops, but I finally got the tools working with Lenny with one exception.

Previous installation of tools using the script at:

http://communities.vmware.com/thread/208507

in Ubuntu seemed to work for Ubuntu except that the full screen aspect wasn't full screen all the time, instead I got full length, but black space on the sides of the VM desktop and this would come and go depending on usage.

My Debian installation didn't use the script as this technique failed on this distro. I'll be glad to share my findings if anyone is interested, but it seems like I always end up answering my own postings on this forum as I get no replies. I don't mind learning more Linux on VM, but doing it this way seems inefficient. My shell scripting skills are almost nil at this point, but I'm trying to get those up so that I can script some of my work instead of just describing it here on this lonely forum. This takes time as I'm just an old retiree and not a software whiz by any means.
