Default VMWare Ubuntu Image

Hi,

I downloaded the free VM Player, and clicked on the download images icon in the player, from where I selected the Ubuntu 9.1 image to download - this was downloaded to my PC in a .7z format -

The VMware player doesnt use this and I dont have the option of selecting it -

What have I done wrong - do I need a different image
Do I need to change the image that I've got
Do I need a different player -

Some help would be great - I am new to this so floundering a bit.

Thanks
