Nlyte Connects Physical to Virtual With Virtualization Connector for VMware vCenter Server

VMworld 2013 US
Nlyte Software, the world’s leading software company focused on the management and optimization of data centers, today introduced the latest version the Nlyte Virtualization Connector 1.5 for VMware® vCenter Server™, enabling the seamless and automated integration of its data center infrastructure management platform (DCIM) with VMware’s vCenter Server. This new connector provides automated and real-time correlation between physical and virtual resources to assure that the view of your data center is accurate and comprehensive. As a longstanding Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) with VMware, Nlyte recognized very early that data center infrastructure management must include everything from the physical componentry all the way up to and including the virtualized instances and their applications. The company will be exhibiting at VMworld 2013 in San Francisco, August 25 – 29, at booth #501.

“Virtualization and all other forms of IT abstraction are built on the assumption that there is essentially infinite physical resources which are always available underneath,” said Mark Harris, Nlyte Software’s vice president of marketing and data center strategy. “This is a big assumption, and usually far from the reality of a modern data center. A majority of today’s processing in the enterprise is built upon virtualized servers, and the management of these servers in a virtual world has traditionally excluded the underlying physical resources.”

It is this physical layer that has been undermanaged for years and as a direct result, capacity related issues occur regularly. These unintended consequences of virtualization can and will be mitigated with the implementation of a robust DCIM Suite and its tight integration with the data center’s virtualization layer. The Nlyte Virtualization Connector 1.5 for vCenter Server addresses this undermanaged situation by allowing real-time integration between these two domains. Built upon the Nlyte NgageAPITM, this latest version enables customers to manage their IT infrastructure more dynamically than ever, by providing automatic discovery and monitoring of the VMware virtual machines, with a single view across all physical Hosts and their Guest virtual machines. In addition, Host and Guest relationship changes that occur in vCenter are now automatically updated in the core Nlyte data repository and all subsequent usage throughout the Nlyte system.

“Implementing Nlyte’s Virtualization Connector for VMware vCenter Server has helped automate the updates of JBS Swift’s virtual machine information,” said Aaron Ayres, Data Center Operations, JBS Swift & Company. “What used to be a manual and time-consuming process is now streamlined as part of our DCIM experience.”

Key Features of Nlyte Virtualization Connector 1.5 for VMware vCenter™ Server:

  • Automatic discovery and monitoring of VMware virtual machines
  • Single view across all physical and virtual servers and machines
  • Increased control and optimization of both physical and virtual resources
  • Reduced complexity and cost of managing a virtualized data center
  • Decreased risk during move, adds and decommissions
  • Clear identification of “Guests” and “Hosts” during outages and support
  • Reduced mean time to repair (MTTR) by quickly determining the rack location of the physical server the VMware virtual machine is running on

Rob Neave, Co-founder and CTO of Nlyte added, “This is just the beginning; the Data Center industry is realizing that DCIM suites were never intended to be isolated islands of functionality, but instead are best leveraged when deployed as proper bi-directional extensions to the rest of their ITSM management structures. Nlyte is aggressively developing deeper integration across these virtualized and cloud-oriented models of hybrid computing to assure that the physical foundations of computing support the logical and virtual domains.”
