Deploying an HBASE Cluster with the VMware vSphere Big Data Extensions

HBASE is a popular open source distributed columnar database that uses the MapReduce and HDFS features of Hadoop to manage its data. It is often in demand by Hadoop users. This demonstration shows the deployment of an HBASE cluster with the vSphere Big Data Extensions. The Big Data Extensions feature is available as a free download with VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus. The HBASE cluster is created using the vCenter plugin that comes with Big Data Extensions (This is a familiar user interface to many VMware administrators) and we show how HBASE Components map into various sizes of virtual machines – and how they are deployed in an automated way. This simplifies the work of the administrator as he/she deploys a variety of different clusters for various needs.
