GigaSpaces Cloudify Deepens Native Integration with OpenStack Clouds

GigaSpaces Technologies, a pioneer of next generation application and cloud enablement platforms, announced their advancements in providing enterprises and ISVs a platform through which to easily and quickly transition to OpenStack clouds through Cloudify. GigaSpaces’ Cloudify is a free and open source application management platform which enables a seamless migration of apps to OpenStack clouds, while maintaining interoperability with existing infrastructures and across different OpenStack and other cloud providers. With Cloudify, enterprises can gradually move their applications onto their new OpenStack environments with increased agility and reduced risk.
“Enabling businesses to build and move applications to OpenStack clouds is critical, and open source solutions like Cloudify make it easier for developers to deploy and manage those applications across OpenStack environments,” said Mark Collier, COO, OpenStack Foundation.

As OpenStack approaches its third birthday, the ever-evolving and dynamic technology is picking up speed and gaining maturity. Enterprises and ISVs need to be prepared for a continuously changing environment and must be able to port their applications across different OpenStack providers and versions as needed. With Cloudify, applications are “future-proofed” with the ability to withstand change without compromising on productivity, availability and interoperability. To learn more about how Cloudify makes this possible, see Nati Shalom and Uri Cohen’s recent blog post, “To OpenStack or Not to OpenStack: Moving Enterprise Applications onto OpenStack Today.”

Cloudify is an open source framework for deploying, managing and scaling applications on a cloud environment. Using “application recipes,” Cloudify automates the setup, deploy, monitor, auto-repair and scale processes of mission-critical and big data applications on public and private clouds, without requiring architectural or code changes.

The next major releases of Cloudify will introduce new depths to the platform’s integration with OpenStack, specifically in the areas of Heat (the OpenStack infrastructure orchestration project), Cinder (OpenStack’s block storage project) and the OpenStack networking project. Cloudify will also be compatible with OpenStack security (Keystone) and ultimately, will leverage other projects such as Ceilometer for metering and monitoring. In addition, Cloudify is also planning to conform to the OASIS TOSCA specification, which is becoming an emerging standard for application orchestration on the cloud.

“In the area of cloud for enterprises, we have decided to focus our positioning on OpenStack clouds, specifically in building software middleware for simplifying the deployment, management and scaling of any application,” said Nati Shalom, CTO at GigaSpaces Technologies. “The open source and community adoption nature of OpenStack enables us to do things that are unique to OpenStack. We have begun working with major customers in the investment banking and telecom industries, as well as with partners, such as IBM, HP and Alcatel-Lucent, to add native OpenStack and multi-cloud support.”

The GigaSpaces team will celebrate OpenStack’s 3rd birthday with the OpenStack Foundation on July 24th. GigaSpaces will also have a booth in the OpenStack Pavilion at O’Reilly’s OSCON open source convention in Portland, Oregon July 22-26th at booth #716, counter #8.
