Sprint, Samsung Verify First Android Device as Citrix Ready

SAN FRANCISCO: Sprint and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) today announced that it has collaborated with Citrix Systems, Inc. to verify the first Android Device as Citrix Ready®– the Samsung MomentTM. Each organization has worked with Citrix for several months to help extend the virtual desktop capabilities of Citrix ReceiverTM to operate on multiple platforms in the mobile environment.

By combining the strengths of Sprint and Samsung with Citrix, businesses can gain the ability to utilize mobile computing not only from a handheld device or PC/Laptop/Netbook perspective, but to extend the capability to the true road warrior environment. For example, the Ford Work Solutions in-dash computer, which is powered by Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband, is now being evaluated with Citrix ReceiverTM so critical business tools can be accessed directly from the in-dash computer. Ford Work Solutions’ computer is available on many Ford vans and pickup trucks; the computer combines fast Internet connections and a host of data applications for companies in a variety of industries to perform mission-critical tasks remotely.

The Citrix Ready program helps customers identify third-party solutions that are recommended to enhance virtualization, networking and cloud computing solutions from Citrix. The Samsung Moment completed a rigorous verification process to ensure compatibility with Citrix, providing confidence in joint solution compatibility.

“We are pleased to have Sprint and Samsung join us in the Citrix Ready program,” said John Fanelli, vice president of solutions and community marketing, Citrix Systems, Inc. “Citrix Ready makes it easier for customers to select the most suitable virtualization infrastructure products for their specific needs. By taking part in our program, Sprint and Samsung have enabled its customers to obtain the highest quality user experience available today, and the simplest means for making an informed product purchasing selection.”

Tom Roberts, vice president of business marketing, Sprint, added, “This is another example of how we’re leveraging our dependable 3G network and the first 4G network available from a national carrier to extend a user’s ability to access corporate applications and data from their Sprint-approved mobile device. This ensures a seamless experience between the desktop/laptop, mobile device and even a road warrior solution like Ford Work Solutions in-dash computer.”

“This new solution is a prime example of how Samsung Mobile is working with other proven innovators to strengthen our efficient and flexible offerings to enterprise businesses and users,” said Gavin Kim, vice president, content, data services and enterprise mobility, Samsung Mobile. “Businesses and their workforces look to smart phones, including the Samsung Moment, to stay connected and productive while out of the office and the Citrix solution is an exciting way to extend that value proposition.”

This year’s Citrix Summit and Synergy event (May 11 to 14, Moscone West Convention Center, San Francisco) will feature demos of the entire array of Citrix mobile solutions, including the Ford Work Solutions F-150, Samsung Moment and Samsung Intrepid Windows Mobile Device, and the latest in high-speed wireless data with Sprint 4G and the new Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot from Sierra Wireless. All Citrix Partners and customers are encouraged to take a “test-drive” of Citrix Receiver to better understand the enhanced capabilities by extending the reach of Citrix to new functional work groups within an organization and help increase efficiencies and productivity anytime, anywhere with Citrix, Sprint, Samsung and Ford Work Solutions.
